Brek Shea's first foray into the Premier League has not been as fruitful as he would have hoped, but he may earn a chance to end the season on a high note before a busy summer with the U.S. national team.
Stoke City manager Tony Pulis told the club's website that he is hoping to deploy Shea in Sunday's season finale against Southampton, saying he is "desperate" to get a look at the former FC Dallas winger, who has been battling a calf injury.
“Brek has got a little bit of a calf strain which is a bit of a nuisance for us,” Pulis told StokeCityFC.com. “We are desperate to get him involved against Southampton, but he’s still got 24 hours before we travel down there so we’ll see how he is tomorrow.”
Shea has only played twice off the bench since completing his transfer from MLS to the Potters. That did not prevent him from getting called up for the USA's upcoming training camp and friendlies against Belgium and Germany leading into three World Cup qualifiers, as he looks to build on his 16 international caps.
