Atalanta 0 : 1 Juventus - Juve march on

I have a say

Juventus may have won the Serie A title at the weekend but there was no sign of a celebratory hangover as they beat Atalanta 1-0 thanks to Alessandro Matri's early goal.

Antonio Conte's men secured their retention of the Scudetto on Sunday and showed just why they are the champions with a workmanlike victory at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d'Italia.

Their hosts had reason to rejoice too as, despite defeat, results elsewhere mean they are safe from the drop.

They did not know that at kick-off, though, and their start was subdued as Emanuele Giaccherini drew a save from Andrea Consigli.

It was not relentless pressure from Juve but the visitors were looking good and with 18 minutes on the clock they made the decisive breakthrough.

Old master Andrea Pirlo's long ball picked out Matri and his first-time drilled effort was too good for Consigli.

German Denis tried to respond with a header that skipped wide and the same man went even closer as half-time approached, cracking a volley against the post.

The home side continued to press in the second half as Giacomo Bonaventura worked Marco Storari - in for Gianluigi Buffon - and the goalkeeper had to dirty his hands again as Davide Biondini took aim.

Pirlo tried a couple of long-range efforts that amounted to little as time ran down, while Arturo Vidal should have done better from close range, but the Old Lady had done enough.
