Lazio vs Bologna preview - Lotito remembers high points

Lazio president Claudio Lotito hopes his side will deliver an ending to the season befitting of their story up until a few weeks ago.

The Biancocelesti have won only one of their last eight games to fall out of the race for the Scudetto and see their hopes of qualifying for the Europa League diminish.

But Lotito prefers to remember the greater moments of this campaign and draw inspiration from that for the final four matches.

"Lazio are the only (Italian) side who reached the quarter-finals of the Europa League and we did not deserve to be knocked out," he said.

"We are in the final of the Coppa Italia after beating Juventus and we were second in the league at the midway stage of the season.

"I hope the team will be able to show their full value in these remaining matches."

Lazio's best chances of qualifying for Europe next season could well come via the Coppa Italia final against Roma on June 1, but whether or not the Biancoceleste play internationally next season, Lotito has promised his side will be stronger.

"Lazio will form a more competitive squad compared to this season by strengthening the parts of the team where we think it's necessary to do so," said Lotito in the Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper.

"And as things stand, none of our players are on the market; none are for sale."

One of their rivals in Serie A next season are likely to be Sunday's opponents Bologna, who moved on to 40 points for the season thanks to a draw with Atalanta last weekend.

"Given the way we started the season, 40 points with four games of the season to go is a great result," coach Stefano Pioli told Sky Sport.

"We have had a difficult second half of the season and we want to carry on this way to the very end."
