Andrea Pirlo: Ready to make way for the next generation of Italian talent
Italy midfielder Andrea Pirlo has revealed that he will slip into international retirement after the 2014 World Cup.
The vastly-experienced Juventus playmaker has won 97 caps for his country since making his debut back in 2002.
He tasted World Cup glory in 2006 and helped the Azzurri to the final of Euro 2012.
The 33-year-old is, however, of the opinion that the time is approaching for him to step aside and make way for the next generation of talent.
Pirlo said: "In 2014 I'll stop with the national team. I think the World Cup will be my last event in the Azzurri jersey.
"It's important to leave space for young players.
"At club level, I'll continue for as long as I have the passion and feel I am important. When that isn't the case, I'll be the first to move myself out."
