Manchester United's Patrice Evra believed that Robin van Persie had a difficult time during his return to the Emirates Stadium.

Evra criticizes van Persie boo-boys

Van Persie took to the Emirates Stadium pitch for the first time since his summer move to Manchester United on Sunday, scoring an equalizer for Sir Alex Ferguson's team from the penalty spot after Theo Walcott had given Arsenal the lead.

A flurry of boos rang round the stadium as the former Gunners skipper stepped up to take the spot kick, which prompted Evra to chastise the Arsenal support for refusing to acknowledge that the Dutchman had made the right choice in leaving them for the Red Devils.

"People forget what he achieved for [Arsenal], but he showed them that he hasn’t made the wrong choice. It was a long time that he didn’t win the league [at Arsenal]. He has come to Manchester United and won the league," he pointed out to manutd.com.

"He did a good job for Arsenal and I was really disappointed for him. I think he felt it as well. To take that penalty he showed what a world-class, top player he is. He kept his nerves down to score that penalty and I am happy for him."

United defender Phil Jones believed United could have come away with three points had they been more clinical.

"In the first half, I would have said a point was a good result, but having seen what we put on in the second half, I thought we carved out a lot of chances and we're disappointed not to have come away with all three points," he shared.

"Full credit to Arsenal, they took us by surprise and came at us all guns blazing in the first 15 to 20 minutes and we couldn't really get a grip on the game. But I think once we got on the ball with Michael Carrick, Wazza (Wayne Rooney) got in the pockets [of space] and we got the ball wide to Nani and Antonio Valencia, we created a lot of chances."

"The manager said at half-time that if we created more chances we'd win the game. I think we created three or four chances and perhaps could have stuck one or two more in the net."

Manchester United welcome Chelsea for their next Premier League game on Sunday.
