Inter Milan manager Andrea Stramaccioni conceded that opponents AS Roma deserved to qualify for the Coppa Italia finals.
Despite AS Roma possessing a 2-1 lead from the first leg, a brilliant individual effort from Brazilian defender Jonathan levelled the aggregate for Inter Milan. However, former Nerazzuri player Mattia Destro scored a quick-fire double in the second half, before his Roma team-mate Vassilis Tosoridis extended the Giallorossi's advantage further, relegating Ricardo Alvarez's 80th minute goal to a mere consolation for Inter.
Stramaccioni told Rai Sport that his team failed to match up when Aurelio Andreazzoli's men raised their game in the second period.
"I think the team had an excellent first half and we could’ve doubled our lead with Tommaso Rocchi. In the second half Roma improved, while we lost physical intensity," he
"I will say over the two legs that Roma deserved to reach the final, so I compliment them and also compliment my players for giving their all. I thank the fans, who understood the situation and supported us to the end."
Destro, who had recently returned from injury, was visibly delighted with scoring a brace against his former club.
"I had been out for two months, so I really wanted to score a goal," he revealed."
"We all wanted to win this game. How do I feel as an ex-Inter player scoring here? It was the decision they wanted to make."
