Torino vs AS Roma Preview - Roll on, Rolando
Posted Sunday, April 14, 2013 by PA
Torino's management are not prepared to discuss Rolando Bianchi's contract until the Granata have secured their own future in Serie A.
The former Manchester City striker's nine goals have proved invaluable on Torino's return to the top flight, where they look destined to stay after building a nine-point cushion above the relegation zone.
Bianchi earned his club their latest point by scoring from the bench to rescue a 2-2 draw at Bologna but, ahead of Sunday's visit of Roma, head coach Giampiero Ventura would not be drawn on any new deal for the 30-year-old, whose current contract expires in July 2014.
He told La Repubblica: "We're always talking about Bianchi. All I can say is that in two years he's only missed two games and been on the bench twice.
"Rolando has proved to be an exemplary professional and not one day passes by when he does not give his all in training."
Director of sport Gianluca Petrachi also urged patience, adding: "We are only prepared to talk about matters pertaining to our bid to survive.
"There are several players with expiring contracts and some of them want to meet me to discuss extensions but we have been clear with them.
"First we stay up, then we talk about the future."
Matteo Brighi, Giuseppe Vives and Valter Birsa are unlikely to feature due to injury while fellow midfielder Migjen Basha serves a one-match ban against the Giallorossi.
Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi, meanwhile, faces a late fitness test ahead of the trip to Turin while boss Aurelio Andreazzoli hopes strikers Pablo Osvaldo and Mattia Destro can get back among the goals to boost a late bid for the Europa League.
Italy international Osvaldo has failed to score since January - his goal at Bologna arriving eight appearances ago - while Destro's last strike of a disappointing four-goal haul arrived in December.
Two dropped points from a 1-1 draw in the Rome derby leave Andreazzoli's men in seventh, three points and two places behind city rivals Lazio, who host Juventus on Monday night.
