Rio’s out for title revenge

PAINFUL MEMORIES ... Rio Ferdinand
RIO FERDINAND admits he is still haunted by last season’s final-day heartache.
Manchester City snatched the title on goal difference last May.
Leaders United know they can stamp out any flickering hopes Roberto Mancini’s side have of retaining their crown when they go head-to-head at Old Trafford tomorrow.
Ferdinand, who is on course for a sixth title medal, said: “It drives us on totally.
“You see clips on the television — the moment we lost the league and you don’t want to remember that. You want to make sure you erase it the next season.
“I don’t sit and dwell on wins. I sit and mope about the defeats, the losses of big games and titles.”
It seems inevitable that United will win the title for a 20th time at some point before May 19, but Ferdinand says last term is a reminder for them to take nothing for granted.
He added: “Last season a lot of people got ahead of themselves and we don’t want to make the same mistake again.
“If we win it would put a huge dent in City’s hopes.
“I’m not surprised we are 15 points clear. I believe in the squad.”
