QPR have no fear of relegation, insists chairman Fernandes

The Rs owner says that the club will be in a financially stable position even if they drop into the Championship, with reports of a huge wage bill "blown out of proportion"

QPR chairman Tony Fernandes insists that the Rs will be stable financially if they are relegated from the Premier League.

The club's wage bill is estimated to have doubled to £56 million since promotion to England's top flight, while registering a loss of £22.6m as debts jumped 57 per cent to nearly £90m in the latest financial figures released in March.

And Fernandes, who owns 66% of the club, is adamant that QPR are financially healthy and that the reports regarding a wage bill increase have been "blown out of proportion".

When asked whether he feared relegation would ruin the club, the Rs chief told reporters:"No fear at all. If we went down, we would just have to come back up.

"Our wage bill is a lot lower than being quoted. It has been blown out of proportion. We are not that far away from [operating within] Financial Fair Play anyway."

QPR are currently bottom of the Premier League, seven points adrift of safety after losing 3-2 to Aston Villa in their last outing, but Fernandes recently announced that he had made a "lifelong commitment" to the club and urged fans to "focus on the future".
