ALL SMILES . .. Frank Lampard hails Wayne Rooney after he fired in goal No6
ROY HODGSON’S Three Lions went goal crazy as England racked up their biggest win for 26 YEARS.
Jermain Defoe led the way with two close-range strikes in what was a World Cup qualifying canter.
In fact it was the first time England had hit eight goals since they beat Turkey by the same margin in 1987.
Hodgson purred: “It couldn’t get any better. They were battered even before the first goal went in.
“I just feel sorry for San Marino because we have so many good players. It was never easy for them. They kept going, defended fairly.
“There were no more than a couple of tackles that were ‘serious’ tackles.
“We just played well enough to win the game comfortable. I’m pleased there were no further injuries and no chance of a yellow card, either.”
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who bagged No 2 with a cracker, said: “We knew it could be frustrating against any team that puts so many men behind the ball.
“Luckily we got the break with the own goal. The boys kept plugging away and it was a dream to get five before half-time.
“I was really happy to get on the scoresheet and it’s something I want to do more and more.”
