Elber: Lewandowski not better than Gomez

Former Bayern Munich striker Giovane Elber does not feel that the club need Robert

Lewandowski and have better players in Mario Gomez and Mario Mandzukic.
The Borussia Dortmund attacker has already indicated that he would not be signing an extension to his contract, leading to rumours of a summer exit from the Westfalenstadion.
The Bundesliga leaders are also doing fine on the goalscoring front as the aforementioned duo have notched 22 goals between them in the current campaign.
Elber, who was part of the Bayern setup for six years, has been impressed by the current strikeforce and has brushed away suggestions that the Bavarian giants should snap up Lewandowski if he becomes available.
"Bayern do not need Lewandowski. He's not a better player than Mario Gomez and Mario Mandzukic," Elber told AZ.
"I would stick with those two. Things can go very quick in football, though. You're indispensable one day and no longer needed the next."
Furthermore, he advised Gomez to be patient as he has lost his first-choice striker role since the arrival of Mandzukic. Elber believes in Gomez's quality and feels the Croat will not usurp the Germany international's place in the long-temr.
"I do not think that Mario is considering a transfer. Quite the opposite, I expect him to fight back and return to the starting XI," he added.
"He's been playing in the Bundesliga for so long, and he knows how these things work. He'll soon be a starter again if he continues to score."
Lewandowski will have one more year left on his contract after the completion of the current season but widespread reports in the German media indicate that the Borussians will likely cash in on the Polish international instead of losing him for a free transfer next year.
