Wolfsburg plotting summer swoop for Arsenal defender

Wolfsburg are considering a surprise summer move for Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker, according to German magazine Kicker.
Despite winning back his place in the side this season, the Germany international has received regular criticism for his performances under Arsene Wenger.
The 28-year-old, who has been capped over 80 times by his national side, is still highly rated in his homeland and could make a return at the end of the season.
Wolfsburg sporting director Klaus Allofs worked with Mertesacker during his spell as general manager at the centre-back's former club Werder Bremen, and he is keen on a reunion.
And Gunners boss Arsene Wenger's reported pursuit of Swansea City star Ashley Williams could pave the way for the giant defender to head home at the end of the season.
