I’d love Roo to join Bayern! Franz hails Utd's Wayne
FRANZ Beckenbauer last night admitted Bayern Munich would be keen to sign Wayne Rooney.

Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson made the controversial decision to leave Rooney on the bench for their Champions League exit against Real Madrid last week.

Fergie was forced to deny reports it signalled the end of Rooney’s time at Old Trafford, claiming the 27 year-old would be offered a new deal when the time came.

But German legend Beckenbauer, who is honorary president of Bayern, admitted: “I would be very happy for Wayne Roney to come to Bayern.”

Former Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola, who takes the reins of the German giants next season, is known to admire Rooney.

He once described him as ‘one of the greatest players in the world’, and might be willing to stump up the £20million-plus for the striker.

Bayern are also one of the few teams in Europe who could afford Rooney’s staggering £230,000-a-week wage, should he decide to leave Manchester in the summer.

But Manchester United director Sir Bobby Charlton, who aloing with Beckenbauer is in Rio for tonight’s Laureus Sports Awards insisted: “Sir Alex has said he has no intention of letting Wayne Rooney go. He is a great player. Why should we get rid of him?”
