West Brom goalkeeper Ben Foster says that England players were happy to pull out of Fabio Capello's squads.
The Baggies shot-stopper recently came out of international retirement and has put himself in contention for a call up with a string of fine performances, the most recent of which came in a fine display in a 1-0 loss at Chelsea.
The 29-year-old says he made his decision because Roy Hodgson has introduced a more relaxed mood in the Three Lions setup, making the international experience more enjoyable than it was during Capello's reign.
"You saw so many people pull out of international duty when the previous manager was there. At times there were eight or 10 people pulling out of every trip," he told reporters. "But players really want to be there now and I’m one that wants to be there as well."
The former Manchester United keeper says former Hawthorns boss Hodgson's appointment as manager has played a huge role in his return to international football.
"Roy being in charge is a big draw for me, definitely a big factor," he explained. "I know what Roy is about. Just from talking to a few of the lads since he took over, he’s brought a more relaxed mood around the England setup.
"Under Fabio [Capello] it seemed to be a little bit too negative but Roy has brought a lot more optimism and the lads seem really happy to be called up and be involved now."
