The Frenchman is looking forward to pursuing long-term success with the Magpies, but knows that securing their Premier League status must be the club's first priority
Newcastle attacker Yoan Gouffran says that while Premier League survival is the club's main priority this season, he is keen on winning trophies with the club in future.
The Frenchman is set to return to action this weekend against Southampton at St. James' Park, having recovered from a shin injury that he suffered two weeks ago at White Hart Lane.
The 26-year-old arrived on Tyneside in January for around £1.5 million, and believes that his team now have the quality to compete for silverware. He understands though, that at the moment Premier League survival is of the utmost importance.
"We must get ourselves into a better position first," he told the Evening Chronicle.
"But we can look to win things in the future too. It is difficult to talk about success like that.
"But why not in the future go and try to do something in the cups or in a trophy? It would be fantastic for the team and the club. We play football to win things - that's why I came here."
The former Bordeaux player, who scored 40 goals in 179 appearances for Les Girondins, has already endeared himself to fans with his high work-rate, and has endeavoured to present himself as a team-player.
He added: "I bring a lot of speed and pace and I still like to score a lot of goals.
"I can bring an aggressive mentality that we need to get ourselves into a much better position.
"I can play a central position. If I am needed to help anywhere I can do that. I will do any job to help the team."
