Ancelotti: Beckham deserves to win another league title
G-LOVELY ... PSG boss Carlo Ancelotti and David Beckham

CARLO ANCELOTTI believes David Beckham deserves to rewrite history and become the first Englishman to win four titles in four different countries.

Beckham, 37, hopes to make his debut in French football tonight when Paris Saint-Germain entertain Joe Barton’s Marseille at the Parc Des Princes.

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid star’s previous game was for LA Galaxy in the MLS Cup final on December 1 so he is likely to start on the bench.

Beckham’s possible meeting with badboy Barton has been the talk of French football this weekend with one publication portraying the players as an angel and a demon.

Barton, as you would expect, was not the angel.

Beckham and former Everton midfielder Trevor Steven are the only Englishmen to have won three titles in three countries and PSG go into tonight’s game against third-placed Marseille with a three-point lead over Lyon.

Asked about Beckham winning a fourth title, PSG manager and former Chelsea boss Ancelotti said: “This would mean he has a fantastic career and he would deserve this success.

“He is a fantastic professional and I love Beckham. He is a special player.

“He is in good condition, very professional and happy to be here.

“He has a very good relationship with his team-mates He has great ability, his passing is quality and he has good experience and knowledge. He also behaves well in training.

“Beckham is the same player I met when I was at Milan three years ago. He is older but still quality. He is fit and could start the game if I wanted him to.”

Beckham’s potential meeting with Barton is intriguing. Their clubs also play each other in Paris in the cup on Wednesday.

Ancelotti is not worried that former Manchester City player Barton will try to wind up his opponent.

The boss said: “There will be no problem between Beckham and Barton. Barton is a very good player But Beckham is experienced and I am not worried.”

There has also been talk over a possible clash of egos between Beckham and Swedish star and team-mate Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

But Ancelotti added: “Beckham and Ibrahimovic have different characters and they will work together very well.”
