Palermo head coach Gian Piero Gasperini strengthened his squad with 10 players in the transfer window and deadline-day signings Diego Fabbrini and Alejandro Faurlin are raring to go against Atalanta.

Salvatore Aronica, Anselmo, Andrea Dossena, Mauro Formica, Mauricio Sperduti, Stefano Sorrentino, Mauro Boselli and Nelson had all signed up for a relegation battle before Fabbrini and Faurlin arrived on loan from Udinese and QPR respectively.

Palermo are three points from safety having failed to win in eight games, but both of the latest recruits believe the club can survive in Serie A.

Attacking midfielder Fabbrini, 22, told the Corriere dello Sport: "I'm here to improve and to give my all to the team with the objective of keeping them up.

"The opportunity arose for me to come here so now I'm thinking about playing - there's plenty of time to think about my own future."

Faurlin, 26, swapped west London for Sicily and said: "I'm in great shape and I'm ready to play the next game against Atalanta.

"But it's up to Gasperini to decide how much I will be involved. There are a lot of Argentinians here at Palermo who will help me to fit in."

Gasperini will be confined to the stands at the Renzo Barbera as a result of his dismissal from the touchline at Cagliari last time out, with striker Fabrizio Miccoli also serving a one-match ban.

Defenders Aronica and Steve Von Bergen are also suspended while striker Abel Hernandez and midfielder Andrea Mantovani remain sidelined through injury.

Atalanta boss Stefano Colantuono is also barred from the dugout after overzealously protesting a series of decisions during last week's defeat to AC Milan.

Gian Bellini, Guido Marilungo, Stefano Lucchini and Michele Ferri are long-term injury concerns, while winger Ezequiel Schelotto moved to Inter Milan this week.

Palermo have won this fixture three times in a row but suffered defeat when the sides met in Bergamo in September, Cristian Raimondi scoring in a 1-0 victory for the Nerazzurri.
