Ayr United have strengthened their defence ahead of the visit of Brechin City by bringing in defender Neil McGregor on loan from Dundee.

Adam Hunter faces a fitness test and trialist Cameron MacDonald will also play for a second time ahead of a potential move to the United States

The Honest Men missing are Martyn Campbell and Michael McGowan with knee injuries and John Robertson with an ankle problem.

Somerset Park player/manager Mark Roberts is delighted to have McGregor on board.

He said: "We are a really good side going forward but defensively our inexperience has cost us results.

"Neil is a great addition especially when you consider he was playing in the SPL last season."

Brechin City come out of cold storage for their first game in three weeks without the injured trio of skipper Ewan Moyes (knee), Jonathan Brown (ankle) and Craig Molloy (knee).

Striker Scott Dalziel left on transfer deadline day for Berwick Rangers, but Glebe Park boss Ray McKinnon is upbeat despite his low numbers.

McKinnon said: "We were playing really well before the cold weather took a grip and I am looking for us to get back to that standard quickly.

"Ayr have strengthened in the last couple of weeks and are determined to start challenging for a play-off place so we are in for a tough afternoon. I am looking forward to it as I am sure our players are up for the challenge."
