Brendan: Gerrard is like someone has dropped from heaven

STEVEN GERRARD goes into tonight’s face-saving battle at the Emirates hailed as Liverpool’s Mr Irreplaceable.
He started on the bench for Sunday’s FA Cup disaster at Oldham and the Reds only livened up when he came on for the last 35 minutes.
Kop boss Brendan Rodgers confessed: “Steven is a unique player. At Oldham, it was like someone had dropped him from heaven because we went to a totally different level.
“Unfortunately, I can’t say that without him we would be all right, because I don’t believe we would.
“With each day that goes by, you see his real importance to the club.
“At 32 years of age, he still looks so fit and strong. You can see his influence on the team. As a captain, he’s been phenomenal.”
Gerrard has just 16 months to run on his contract and a new deal will be sorted out soon.
