THIS HAS ALL GONE POTTY ... Jon Walters celebrates his second
TONY PULIS hailed Jon Walters after he buried his own-goal nightmare.
The Stoke forward scored two OGs and missed a penalty in Saturday’s 4-0 home defeat by Chelsea.
But last night he put two in the right net to leave boss Pulis beaming: “It’s just great for him. It will wash away what happened against Chelsea.
“I wasn’t going to play him tonight.
“Last Friday I was planning to give him a rest but after what happened on Saturday I thought the best thing was to get him out there again.
“He is someone who gives everything. He’s a gifted individual in lots of respects. He has a big strong heart and real British bulldog spirit.”
Victory over Championship side Palace earned Stoke a fourth-round tie at home to Manchester City — a re-run of the 2011 final, which Roberto Mancini’s side won 1-0.
Mancini has taken City to the Britannia five times and is yet to win.
Pulis added: “We’ve only lost two games in 14 cup ties. It would be lovely to make it two in 15.”
Elsewhere, League One Brentford beat Southend to earn a plum home tie with neighbours Chelsea.
Bees assistant boss Alan Kernaghan said: “We are capable of giving them a game and giving ourselves a decent chance.”
QPR marched into the fourth round with a 1-0 win at West Brom — Jay Bothroyd scoring his first Rs goal for 14 months.
They now host League One outfit MK Dons.
