Adebayor tells Tottenham: Sorry, I just had Togo

EMMANUEL ADEBAYOR could be on a collision course with Andre Villas-Boas after the Spurs striker was named in Togo’s African Nations Cup squad.
Adebayor has performed a dramatic U-turn after initially rejecting the chance to play.
It means he will be away from Tottenham up to a month.
Villas-Boas last month told reporters he had given Adebayor the green light to play in the tournament.
But the ex-Manchester City star, 28, has revealed that his boss is yet to give him personal backing.
Adebayor said: “That is what he said to the Press but not what he said to me.
“There is a difference between what you say to the Press and what you say in private.”
Togo’s team coach was ambushed in a horror gun attack which killed three people before the African Nations Cup in 2010.
Adebayor initially ruled himself out of this year’s tournament over security fears.
But the forward has revealed how a meeting with Togo president Faure Gnassingbe convinced him to play.
He added: “I have met the head of state on two occasions. We talked, I told him what was wrong with Togolese football.
“He must, at all costs, find solutions. We discussed it and he guaranteed that he will take charge of everything.
“In 2010 I wanted to go to the African Nations Cup to win and you saw all that happened, how that turned out.
“I hope this time will be better for me, for my team-mates, for all of Togo.”
