Keane and Cahill are likely to be six-week loans maximum, but Redknapp is reportedly still willing to bring them for a short-term impact.

Elsewhere, deals for Diame and Anelka are at an early stage but Redknapp confirmed he is pursuing them on Friday even though they would be difficult.

‘Diame’s a good player. You would love to have him here but he belongs to West Ham. The whole of football knows about his £3.5million buyout clause though,’ teased Redknapp.

‘Anelka is another one. He is a top player so we would be interested but whether we could afford to get anywhere near him I’m not sure at the moment.’
