LOOKING FORWARD ... Steven Gerrard
STEVEN GERRARD insists he is “excited” by Liverpool’s prospects for 2013.
The Reds skipper claims Brendan Rodgers’ first six months in charge have revitalised the club — despite their struggle to stay in the top half this season.
And he reckons the crop of young players assembled around him can take the club forward.
Gerrard, 32, said: “Going into the New Year, there’s plenty to be positive about.
“I’m excited about this Liverpool team. I genuinely believe we are moving in the right direction.
“There will be a few blips along the way, like the Villa defeat, because we are a very young squad.
“But clubs are defined by how they react to adversity and I know this group shares plenty of character and togetherness. As a collective, we will learn and we will get better.
“The league position needs to be improved and that needs to be our focus. But we’ve got games in two major cup competitions to look forward to as well.”
Liverpool recovered from their Boxing Day defeat to Stoke with victory at QPR on Sunday. And
Kop defender Daniel Agger is desperate to string a run of wins together.
He said: “Even though we bounced back to win at QPR, we still have that Stoke game in our heads. We need to have that motivation to win every week.”
