Klaas-Jan Huntelaar ends Arsenal and Liverpool interest by ‘signing new Schalke deal’
Staying put: Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has reportedly agreed a new deal at Schalke

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is reportedly set to snub a move to Arsenal or Liverpool in January by signing a new contract with Schalke.

The Holland striker is a top target for both the Gunners and the Reds, but German news agency Der Westen says Huntelaar has agreed to extend his stay with Schalke until 2016.

‘Huntelaar has decided to renew Schalke contract, details to be announced in the coming days,’ the paper tweeted.

Huntelaar’s current contract is due to expire at the end of the season, and Schalke have twice had offers to extend it rejected by the player and his agent.

That had opened the door to significant interest from both Arsenal and Liverpool, but Der Westen claims Huntelaar has now agreed a new deal, and will put pen-to-paper in the next few days.

The news will especially come as a blow to Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, who had made the 29-year-old his only real striker target in the new year.
