Granada CF vs Real Sociedad preview - Anquela makes fan plea

I have a say

Granada boss Juan Antonio Anquela has called for the home fans at Nuevo Los Carmenes to get behind the team this weekend rather than call for his resignation.

Anquela's men are currently rooted in the bottom three with just three wins from 15 games this season and the final whistle at their last home match against Espanyol was met with angry fans chanting for the former Alcorcon manager's head.

However, he believes the team will need all the support they can get in a make or break match on Saturday against a Sociedad side on a five-game unbeaten run.

He told AS: "I have huge respect for the fans, we have a marvellous support but I only ask that they support our team. We need to be one, although everyone has their own opinion and view of this.

"Sociedad are a powerful team that are playing very well and have won with a certain ease at places that are not easy.

"What worries me is their speed and how well they play their football, but for me the dream game is to see my team with intensity, judgement and the right personality until the referee blows the final whistle."

Sociedad manager Philippe Montanier meanwhile is looking for his side to continue the excellent form that has seen them move to within three points of the European places.

He told a press conference broadcast on the club's website: "We have gained an interesting consistency.

"This is what we have been looking for since the start, but the most important thing is the future, to maintain this dynamic, because in football this is the most difficult thing.

"We are aware of the quality that Granada have. They deserve more points, they play with intensity and we remember the games in the Copa del Rey last year, therefore we know it is going to be a difficult game."

Carlos Vela will return for the Basques after being suspended for last weekend's 1-1 draw with Getafe, but Markel Bergara, Liassine Cadamuro and Gorka Elustondo remain out injured.
