LONDON (AP) -- Fulham has received an apology from Liverpool chairman Tom Werner for his club's ''unprofessional'' behavior in pursuing Clint Dempsey during the offseason, prompting the London team to withdraw a complaint made to the Premier League.
Fulham said Wednesday that Werner has acknowledged that Liverpool's conduct during its attempts to sign the United States forward was ''simply not acceptable'' and has ''emphasized his regret for the entire episode.''
A video on the website of Liverpool's American owners, Fenway Sports Group, claimed in July that a deal had been completed to sign Dempsey. It was quickly removed after Fulham denied the story.
Dempsey ended up moving to Tottenham on transfer deadline day on Aug. 31.
