America defender Diego Reyes says that he’ll be back in the Liga MX for the Clausura 2013, set to kick off in January, despite rumors linking him strongly with a European move.
“I’m staying, I’m very happy here,” Reyes said. “I know there’s been a lot of talk, but I’m staying here for the next tournament.”
Reyes has been specifically linked with a move to Portuguese giant Benfica, but the player said he hadn’t heard anything to that effect from his representative.
“I never heard anything about any offers, and I’ve just been thinking about playing for America,” the Olympic hero said. “They were talking about me going there, in the Portuguese press, but I never heard anything from my representative or the board of directors.”
Reyes debuted for America in 2010 as a 17-year-old, and nailed down a regular starting role soon after. In the Apertura 2012, he emerged as a leader in defense for the Eagles after returning from a sterling performance in the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
