LOOKING BECK ... David in Lions days
DAVID BECKHAM has no regrets at rejecting a ceremonial England send-off.
Former England boss Fabio Capello offered Becks a farewell appearance if he called time on his international career.
It would have given Beckham a 116th Three Lions cap instead of the 115 he currently holds.
But the former skipper was not interested in sentiment.
Becks said: “Throughout my England career, despite what some people have said over the years, I didn’t want to be just given a game — I wanted to earn it.
“I don’t regret not taking that game because, like I said, I never wanted to be given an easy cap.
“It’s not like I think I will play for England again but if there was any point and any chance any time, I would never turn down playing for my country. But do I think it will happen again? No.”
Beckham insists he has no interest in being a manager, even though he got a taste of what it was like as part of Capello’s backroom team at the 2010 World Cup.
He added: “It was amazing for him to bring me into that World Cup and give me time around the players in that situation.
“But I don’t want to be a manager and, while I love coaching kids, that’s as far as it goes.”
