Alloa forward Kevin Cawley opened the scoring as Paul Hartley's men ran out 2-0 winners away at Stenhousemuir.

After a scrappy start to the game, the visitors took the lead in the 24th minute when Cawley drilled the ball past Stenhousemuir goalkeeper Robbie Thomson from the centre of the penalty area.

Alloa doubled their lead 12 minutes later thanks to Stephen Simmons, whose stunning overhead kick from 12 yards out gave them a two-goal advantage going into the break.

The hosts came out of the blocks strongly in the second period and had a number of chances to reduce the deficit, the best of which falling to Kevin McKinlay, who saw his 20-yard drive saved by Scott Bain less than two minutes after the restart.

Alloa defended well in the latter stages of the game and never looked like conceding.
