The England international has been absent for two weeks with tonsillitis and faces ompetition for a striker's role from Robin van Persie, Danny Welbeck and Chicharito
Wayne Rooney is happy to drop into a midfield role for Manchester United on his return to action against QPR on Saturday.
The England international, who has not featured for two weeks after suffering tonsillitis, could face competition for a starting role up front, with Robin van Persie expected to start.
Danny Welbeck and Chicharito will also be in contention for a place in the starting XI, but Rooney is willing to play in a deeper position, despite his desire to score goals.
"I've always said I've no problem doing that [playing deep]," he told the club's official website.
"I think we've got the balance right now.
"We've got the squad of players and the forwards more importantly who can go and score goals. So we've got options up front and that gives the manager the option to play me deeper or play another forward as well. That's great for the team.
"Of course I want to score goals, but [the main aim is] to try and help the team win the game and be successful. Hopefully we can do that against QPR and get the Norwich result out f the way."
The striker was also adamant the 1-0 midweek defeat to Galatasaray rankled the Old Trafford players, despite having already secured a place in the Champions League knockout stages prior to the game.
He added: "We were still disappointed to lose the game, even though we'd already qualified in the Champions League as group winners.
"Obviously last week [losing to Norwich] was a massive disappointment for us. After losing that one, this QPR game couldn't have come quickly enough. We're looking to get back out there in the league and try and get the three points."
