Union sends three more abroad for training, including Adu

The Philadelphia Union continues to ship its players overseas for training stints with European clubs, with three more players joining the horde of Union talent abroad.

Freddy Adu will be spending two weeks with Turkish side Galatasaray -- which is currently preparing for a UEFA Champions League fixture against Manchester United -- and Amobi Okugo and Michael Farfan will be training with Bundesliga side SC Freiburg. None of the trips are being designated as trials.

For all three players, training abroad is nothing new. Adu did so last MLS offseason with Spanish side Rayo Vallecano. This will mark his return to Turkey, where he resurrected his career with second-tier side Caykur Rizespor before joining the Union in August 2011. Farfan, meanwhile, spent time at English Premier League club Sunderland last year, and for Okugo, this will be the second straight offseason spent at Freiburg.

This makes six Union players who are training or have trained abroad this offseason. Goalkeeper Zac MacMath just finished his third training stint with Everton in as many years, and young attacker Cristhian Hernandez was with La Liga outfit Real Sociedad. Midfielder Jimmy McLaughlin is currently training with TSG 1899 Hoffenheim in Germany.

In addition to the Union, Chivas USA has sent U.S. international forward Juan Agudelo to Scottish power Celtic, where he is training until Friday, as MLS teams continue to send players abroad to stay sharp during the few-month lull between seasons.
