Liverpool have approached Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala over a deal to sign striker Lacina Traore.

Lacina Traore scored the only goal in Anzhi's win over Liverpool last week

The Ivory Coast international has been singled out by the Reds following his goal in Anzhi’s 1-0 win over Brendan Rodgers’ side in last week’s Europa League tie.

And the Northern Irishman intends to keep close tabs on 6ft 8in Traore for the rest of the season, with a view to a summer move.

According to the player’s agent Dmitry Selyuk, the 22-year-old is also wanted in Italy, but
Liverpool could still be leading the race for his signature.

‘Aside from Liverpool, Udinese are another on the list of clubs to have made contact about the purchase of Traore,’ Selyuk said.

‘I'm afraid the Italian side won't be able to meet the player's valuation.’

But Selyuk also added Traore would be in no rush to leave the Russian side.

‘At the moment Lacina is happy with his situation at Anzhi. Not long ago he signed a new contract until June 2016,’ he said.

‘There's no reason for Traore to rush.’
