Giovanni Stroppa's tenure as head coach of Pescara could be near an end as Chievo inflicted a sixth defeat of the season on the struggling Delfini by recording a 2-0 victory.

The 44-year-old was given the public backing of Pescara president Daniele Sebastiani following angry fan protests at the Stadio Adriatico on Sunday, but goals from Siqueira Luciano and Adrian Stoian could prove the final straw.

Following yet another Serie A defeat, promoted Pescara have failed to score in their last four outings, with Simone Romagnoli's first-half dismissal doing nothing to boost their cause.

Chievo, meanwhile, emerge from the relegation zone to sit in 15th after keeping just their second clean sheet of the new campaign.

Heavy rain at the Stadio Marc'Antonio Bentegodi proved problematic in the early stages, Chievo's Sergio Pellissier struggling to control the ball on the sodden pitch when through on goal.

Dario Dainelli soon had only Mattia Perin to beat, instead skying his shot high over the crossbar, before Pescara got a grip on proceedings.

A promising cross from Francesco Modesto evaded Elvis Abbruscato and the Delfini would live to regret the missed opportunity.

Referee Emilio Ostinelli did not hesitate to show Romagnoli a straight red card in the 32nd minute, as the Pescara defender went in hard on Cyril Thereau.

Chievo failed to make their extra man count before the break, though, Perparim Hetemaj miskicking the ball when clean through on goal.

When play resumed, Juan Quintero threatened to put Pescara ahead at the end of a mazy dribble, but the end product was sorely lacking.

Luciano had Perin sprawling at the other end with a couple of solid efforts, and soon Chievo made the breakthrough.

Substitute Mamadou Samassa went down in the area under the attentions of Modesto in the 75th minute, leaving Luciano to tuck home the resulting penalty.

It was to be a quickfire double as Perin pushed Thereau's effort away after the restart, but Stoian was lurking to convert the rebound.

Pescara had been beaten and Abbruscato's aimless punt, with time ticking away, summed up another toothless display from Stroppa's beleaguered side.
