Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez could be set for a January transfer to Atletico Madrid, as the Spaniards prepare to replace highly sought-after forward Radamel Falcao.

Falcao scored the only goal in Atletico's 1-0 win over Real Sociedad tonight and know it is unlikely the Colombian international will stay with the club, with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain all in the hunt for his signature and are lining up Hernandez as a possible replacement.

It is thought the Spanish side are prepared to offer £12million for the Mexican international, who has struggled to hold down a place in Sir Alex Ferguson’s side in the past 18 months, with the arrival of Robin van Persie over the summer limiting his chances further.

The 24-year-old enjoyed a sensational start to life at Old Trafford, when he joined from Guadalajara in 2010, scoring 20 goals in all competitions in his maiden season in Manchester, but he has since found his opportunities limited and has started just one league game this campaign.

Italian Serie A side Fiorentina are also interested in a move for the youngster, but are thought to only be willing to offer Manchester United £8million.
