Dawson: I still have a future at Tottenham

Michael Dawson insists he still has a future at Tottenham – despite almost being sold by Andre Villas-Boas this summer.

The Spurs defender was on the verge of joining London rivals QPR in August, before the move broke down due to personal terms failing to be agreed.

The former Nottingham Forest defender has since seen his first-team opportunities limited at White Hart
Lane and has made just one Premier League appearance so far this season.

But Dawson, who has won the League Cup with the club in 2008, believes he can still regain a place in Andre Villas-boas’ side.

“The January transfer window is a long way away.” he told Hawksbee and Jacobs “We’re only in October and there are loads of games coming up in the next 25 days.

“From a player’s point of view anything can happen. I’ve been in the position where I’ve been playing and got injured and someone has replaced me.

“I’m ready, training hard each day and when my chance comes, I’ll be ready to take the opportunity.”
Dawson remains down the list of defenders at Tottenham, with Steven Caulker and William Gallas coming into the side instead of the 28-year-old in recent weeks, but the England star claims he’s raring to go should Villas-Boas call on him.

“I love football and I always want to play,” he went on to say. “Not being involved in the first game [against Newcastle] was tough and hard to take.

“With the players that we’ve got though you’ve got to earn the right to play. That’s something I’ve been doing on a regular basis, just keeping my head down and working hard.

“It was nice to get the Carling Cup and Europa League game and, hopefully, there’s many more to come. We’ve got top players and people are fighting for their position.”
