Manchester United chief executive David Gill has been unveiled as the new vice-chairman of the Football Association.

The 55-year-old will replace Sir Dave Richards after the FA Board approved appointment of Gill, who was put forward for the role by the Professional Game Board. Gill, who has been on the FA Board for the past six years, joins Roger Burden as a second vice-chairman, and is relishing his new role at English football’s governing body.

“I’m delighted to have been appointed Vice-Chairman of The Football Association,” he said in a statement on the FA’s website. "The health and success of The Football Association is vital to the future of the game in England and I hope to justify the Board’s faith in me by helping to shape discussions and actions to deliver that.”

Gill has also been put forward to represent the FA in the UEFA Executive Committee, with elections taking place in May at the UEFA Congress in London.
