Manchester United midfielder Nani is being targeted by AC Milan as the Italian giants look to secure a cut-price deal to take the player to the San Siro next summer.

The 25-year-old has seen his relationship with manager Sir Alex Ferguson deteriorate over the past few months as he has struggled to find consistent form and a move away from Old Trafford is now considered a possibility, with just 18 months remaining on his current contract.

AC Milan are thought to be leading the chase to sign Nani, but have so far been put off by United’s reported £20million price tag, with a figure of around £12million closer to what they are willing to pay.

The Portuguese international was left out of the Manchester United squad who faced Fulham in the second game of the season, following an unimpressive display in the 1-0 opening defeat to Everton and he riled Ferguson further by missing a penalty in his side’s Champions League group game against Galatasaray.

Zenit St Petersburg were prepared to offer £25million for the winger over the summer, but the deal fell through due to Nani’s ‘unreal’ wage demands.

It now looks unlikely Nani will depart the club in the January transfer window, but a move at the end of the season could materialise.
