POLISH legend Zbigniew Boniek has put the boot into England striker Andy Carroll by sneering: “My eight-year-old grandson is better than him.”

Boniek, about to be named Polish FA president, is hoping the on-loan West Ham battering ram plays in tonight’s World Cup qualifier here.

The man who led Poland to the 1982 World Cup semi-finals said: “My grandson Mateo moves better on the pitch than Andy Carroll and he has better coordination.”

Polish skipper Marcin Wasilewski was just as dismissive of Carroll, claiming: “We know he is tall and well built.

“He does all right in the air with the fights and he plays the ball quite well with his head. That’s how he scores most of his goals.”

Wasilewski also revealed the entire Polish nation is desperate to beat England to make up for going out in the first round of this summer’s European Championships.

He said: “We are highly motivated for this game after what happened to us at home in the Euros.”

England were also warned the pitch will not be the best.

Polish coach Waldemar Formalik admitted: “There will be situations when the players will slip and the ball won’t bounce as they might expect.”
