Radamel Falcao: Among the most sought-after talents in European football
Atletico Madrid will not part with Radamel Falcao in January, but have hinted that they could be persuaded to cash-in on the highly-rated striker next summer.
The Colombia international is among the most sought-after talents in European football, with a prolific strike rate drawing attention from the continent's top clubs.
Chelsea and Manchester City are believed to be heading the queue for his signature, with the Premier League pair blessed with the financial backing required to put a deal in place.
Atletico would be reluctant sellers, but appreciate that offloading their prized asset to anyone willing to match his €60million (£48.3m) buy-out clause would help to ease the financial strain on the club.
"€60 million for Falcao would solve all the economic problems at Atletico," general manager Gil Marin told COPE Radio.
"I can say for sure, though, that he will stay with us until the end of the season. Not only will he stay, but so will all the players that the coach wants to stay.
"We will fight to perform a miracle which is what we are doing with what we have available.
"In Europe there are 50 clubs with more income than we have. If we were to sell Falcao for €60 million then that would cover our debts."
Real Madrid are also said to be keen on raiding their cross-city neighbours for Falcao's services, but Marin doubts such a switch would be made.
"If Atletico do not qualify for the Champions League or cannot afford to meet his wage demands then I do not think that Real Madrid could afford him either," he continued.
"We have to do impossible things and take risks so that the fans can have the team that they want. It is difficult to maintain."
