D.C. United picked up a vital 1-0 win against Toronto FC, thanks to a late winner from Hamdi Salihi after a sequence of errors from the home side.

The first half passed by without much incident. Lionard Pajoy was presented with the best chance of the opening stanza, but the striker wasted the chance from inside the box, firing over the goal.

As the second half wore on, TFC began to turn the screw, and had a number of opportunities to score the game's first goal, but a combination of Bill Hamid in the DCU goal and poor finishing conspired to keep the game scoreless.

And as so often has been the case for Toronto FC this season, it capitulated at the end of the match. A poor clearance at midfield from Jeremy Hall sent Maicon Santos down the right wing. The Brazilian cut in and drove a tame shot at Milos Kocic from a tight angle, which the goalkeeper spilled and left for the trailing Salihi to tap home.

With the win, United temporarily moved up to second place in the East on 54 points, pending the results of later games Saturday.
