Giroud: I have been unlucky in front of goal for Arsenal

The French forward thanks his team-mates for their continued support, and is confident of breaking his Premier League goalscoring duck sooner rather than later

Olivier Giroud believes he has been “a little unlucky” in front of goal for Arsenal, but insists he is not worried by his indifferent start to life in the Premier League.

The striker has only found the net once in nine games this season, in a 6-1 thrashing of League One outfit Coventry City in the League Cup.

Giroud notched 21 Ligue 1 goals for Montpellier last season, prompting Arsene Wenger to pay £12 million, and the striker believes the support of his manager and team-mates is crucial to him finding his feet in England.

He told the club’s official website: “I try [to score], I try all I can. Sometimes you need to keep the faith, to keep going. When you are a striker, sometimes it’s difficult. I don’t know why, but I do try to do the right thing.

“I think I’m a little unlucky. I’ll keep going and continue to work hard in training. People say to me, ‘the goal is coming soon, don’t worry, we trust you’ and it’s very important for me to feel the support of people and my team-mates."

Giroud also feels Arsenal are collectively impressing and does not believe the disappointing 2-1 defeat to Chelsea will prevent the Gunners from continuing their promising early-season form.

He added: “We are good team. Although we lost against Chelsea I think it was an accident. We are confident for the future and I am confident. I don’t worry about the future. The goals are coming soon.”
