PSV star Kevin Strootman has put Manchester United on red alert after revealing he intends to quit the Dutch club during the January transfer window.

The 22-year-old is widely recognised as one of the finest young midfielders in Europe, having shot to prominence following spells at Sparta Rotterdam and Utrecht before joining PSV last summer.

An all-action but cultured central midfielder known for his excellent passing range and crunching tackles,
Strootman has been tracked by some of the biggest clubs in the world in the last few months, including Real
Madrid and AC Milan.

However, it's United who have the most significant interest, with trusted scout Martin Ferguson sent to the
Holland at the end of last season to compile a dossier on the player ahead of a rumoured summer bid.

The offer didn't arrive, with PSV refusing to budge on their £20 million valuation, but Strootman is now ready to push through a transfer out of the club in January, according to his agent Chiel Dekker.

'Strootman has had a good time in Eindhoven, but he decided that he wants to prove himself in a better league,' Dekker told the Dutch media.

'If an agreement is able to be reached with a potentially interested club, PSV will allow Kevin to leave in January.'

The news will come as music to Sir Alex Ferguson's ears, with a central midfielder a top priority for United in the New Year, having failed to land any of their targets over the summer.

It's thought a bid of at least £15 million would be enough to get the deal done.
