Stephen Stirling struck his first goal of the season to help Morton defeat Raith Rovers 1-0.

Raith's Stuart Anderson tested Morton after 16 minutes but his long range shot was well held by Derek Gaston, while Morton's only first-half effort came from Scott Taggart's 30-yard drive a minute later that sailed wide.

Stirling broke the deadlock for Morton midway through the second half with a thunderous 25-yard effort that flew into the bottom right corner.

Rovers could have hit back 10 minutes later but Simon Mensing headed Allan Walker's cross over when well placed, and they continued to push for an equaliser, resulting in an injury time chance for Jason Thomson but his acrobatic effort went over from 12 yards.
