Anderson calls for United improvement

Manchester United midfielder Anderson believes the club must do better after ending last season without any silverware.

The Red Devils had a campaign to forget last year as they lost out to the Barclays Premier League title to arch-rivals Manchester City on the final day, and also embarassingly bowed out of the UEFA Champions League in the group stages.

And Anderson admits a season without silverware is unacceptable at a club of United's stature.

"We have to do better," the Brazil international said on the club's official website. "Manchester United have to win every trophy and we're disappointed if we don't.

"There's always pressure to do well when you play for this club. Last season we lost the league on goal difference and everybody was sad.

"But we have to forget that and concentrate on this season."

United got the current campaign off to a bad start as they fell to a 1-0 defeat to Everton, although they have since bounced back - albeit in unconvincing fashion - with 3-2 victories over Fulham and Southampton.

Summer signing Robin van Persie scored four goals in those two wins and Anderson believes him, along with Shinji Kagawa, have been excellent additions at Old Trafford.

"I think the team looks good," he added. "At the beginning of the season it's always difficult but we've got a couple of wins and now we want more.

"Shinji Kagawa and Robin van Persie have a lot of quality. They make it easier for the rest of the team when they have so much talent.

"It also means everybody works harder to try and keep their own place."

Anderson joined United from Porto back in 2007 for a fee reported to be in the region of £20million but is yet to fully establish himself as a regular in Sir Alex Ferguson's starting XI.
