Premier League club Swansea signed Spain winger Pablo Hernandez from Valencia for a club record fee of £5.55 million on Friday.

Hernandez, capped four times by Spain, agreed a three-year contract with Michael Laudrup's side and will officially complete his transfer subject to international clearance.

Laudrup moved for the 27-year-old once it became clear Scott Sinclair would leave the Liberty Stadium to join Manchester City and when that deal was completed on Friday Hernandez was snapped up by the Swans just hours later.

Hernandez, who will make his debut after next week's international break, worked with Laudrup while the Dane was in charge at Getafe and he was delighted to put pen to paper after passing his medical.

"I'm very happy to become a Swansea City player," he told the club's website.

"It was my target as soon as I knew there was interest. There were offers from other clubs, but this was the only club I wanted to join."

The record fee surpassed the club's previous biggest deal set only last week when they signed South Korea midfielder Ki Sung-Yueng from Scottish champions Celtic for £5.5 million.
