Chievo sporting director Giovanni Sartori is reluctant to rush into signing a replacement for Alberto Paloschi after the striker was ruled out of the start of the Serie A season.

Paloschi will miss the Flying Donkeys' opening game against Bologna due to an ankle injury that has sidelined him for three months.

Sartori told Calcio News 24: "We'll wait for the boy to be operated on and then we will have a more definite understanding of the situation.

"It's certainly not good news, but Chievo already have some valid alternatives even if we will evidently miss Alberto.

"Could we sign a replacement? We'll see what his recovery time is expected to be and then we'll make a decision."

With Paloschi out of contention, the workload in attack falls on fans' player of the year Sergio Pellissier and French forward Cyril Thereau.

Domenico Di Carlo must also cope without influential midfielder Michael Bradley, who has joined Roma, and defender Francesco Acerbi, now of AC Milan.

Romania's Paul Papp was drafted in as a replacement for the latter, while on-loan Cesena midfielder Marco Rigoni adds experience in the middle of the park.

Bologna's ninth-placed finish last year was their highest in a decade, but they must now replicate that kind of form without veteran striker Marco Di Vaio.

The 36-year-old has bid farewell to the Stadio Renato All'Ara after four seasons to join Major League Soccer outfit Montreal Impact.

Stefano Pioli must also cope without influential midfielder Gaby Mudingayi, who has embarked on a season-long loan at Inter Milan.

Striker Alessandro Diamanti has renewed his contract, with Gaston Ramirez still in Rossoblu colours despite a transfer approach from Southampton.

Pioli told Sky Sport Italia: "This is a delicate situation and the sooner it is sorted out, the better.

"I told (Ramirez) that I'd be very happy to coach him again this year. This is the best situation for us and for him if he wants to grow."
