Andrey Arshavin has claimed on his official website that former England boss Fabio Capello has been appointed the new national coach of Russia.
The 66-year-old had been included on a shortlist of potential candidates, including Pep Guardiola and Harry Redknapp, by the Russian Football Union.
And the Arsenal midfielder, back from a loan spell at Zenit St Petersburg, has now claimed that the former Juventus coach will take charge of his country.
"Fabio Capello has been appointed as the new head coach of the Russian national team," a statement read.
"We wish him success in his new position."
It had earlier been claimed by the Russian Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko that talks between both parties would continue over the next few days in Moscow.
Capello, who has been out of work since leaving the Three Lions in February, would fill the position that was vacated by Dick Advocaat after Euro 2012.
