David Alaba believes Bayern Munich must bounce back from last season's disappointment of losing out in the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and Champions League.
Bayern were beaten in both the league and cup by rivals Borussia Dortmund and suffered a heartbreaking penalty shootout loss to Chelsea in the Champions League final to end the campaign emptyhanded.
But with the new season fast approaching, Alaba believes the Bavarian outfit needs to wipe the slate clean and get over their disappointment.
"We have to focus on the future, set ourselves new targets and reach them, of course," the youngster said on the club's official website.
"I'll give it my best shot in every training session and try and put myself forward.
"It's pre-season and everyone starts again with the slate wiped clean. In the new season, every player has to prove himself again."
With that in mind, Alaba, who established himself as coach Jupp Heynckes' first-choice left-back, believes he needs to win again earn his place in the side.
"It's a new year for all of us," he added. "I want to play as many games as possible. I hope it continues like the last six months.
"Very good new players have joined us. Each individual has to give it all he has and strive for a place in the team."
Alaba, who has earned 17 caps for Austria, appeared 45 times for Bayern last season and scored three goals.
