Redknapp: I didn’t want to go but I’ll be back soon
KNAPP SACK ... Harry Redknapp reflects on his axing

HARRY REDKNAPP insisted he never wanted to leave Tottenham but vowed: “I’m still in love with football — I’ll be back soon.”

The 65-year-old had just two hours sleep after leaving White Hart Lane at 4.15am yesterday following his dismissal by chairman Daniel Levy.

He said: “I didn’t want to leave but they made a decision to go in a different direction.

“I want to get on with my life instead of moping about getting the sack.

“When people at the top don’t like you, what can you do about it? I have to respect it. I can’t do anything about that.

“It’s entirely up to the owner of the club. I was an employee and if they want to go down a different road, they own the club.”

Levy axed Redknapp with a year to go on his contract following weeks of speculation over the manager’s future.

He led Spurs to the Champions League for the first time and finished fourth last season.

Spurs will pay him £3million in compensation and Redknapp spent yesterday playing golf with a pal to take his mind off things.

But he has vowed to return to work quickly, adding: “I’m still in love with football. I’m not fed up with it at all.

“My missus Sandra is going to be fed up with me for a little while because I’ll be under her feet for a bit, but not for long.

“I want to manage a club again. I’ve not given any thought to where — but I will be back.”
