SHINJI KAGAWA has revealed how a personal visit from Alex Ferguson persuaded him to join Manchester United.
Borussia Dortmund’s Japanese winger, 23, will move to Old Trafford for an initial £12million once he passes a medical.
A host of top clubs were chasing the Bundesliga star but Fergie jetted out personally to see him at the German Cup final last month.
Kagawa revealed: “Manchester were the first to make me a formal offer.
“And the more I talked to them, the more I felt Manchester was the place for me to be.
“I met Ferguson and contacted him a few times afterwards. He told me ‘I would love it if you could take on this challenge’.
“And when a legendary man like him says that to you, it carries weight.”
Meanwhile, it is claimed United’s owners have scrapped plans to sell shares in the club in Asia — and turned instead to their native USA.
Now it is said they are looking to sell in the region of 25 per cent of United on the New York Stock Exchange.
